Independent Energy Expertise You Can Trust
I help building owners cut through complexity — uncovering hidden opportunities and free money that turn energy decisions into financial advantages, ensuring every dollar works in the owner’s best interest.
I’m a building-performance advisor. For nearly two decades, I’ve evaluated designs and buildings through both modeling and real operational data — using utility bills, BMS trend logs, and field results to uncover what truly drives performance and profit.
Much of my work has been helping owners make money through energy incentives — uncovering rebates, 179D tax deductions, and design adjustments that turn efficiency into financial return. I guide engineering teams and owners to invest their energy budgets where they’ll get the biggest payback, avoid diminishing returns, and capture every available credit and deduction. That perspective comes from years of bridging analysis with outcomes — seeing what truly drives ROI in practice.
I’ve also taught thousands of professionals and served as an expert witness, translating complex systems into plain language for engineers, owners, and judges. Those experiences reinforced a simple truth: when people understand what the numbers really mean, they make smarter, more profitable decisions. I started Fassbender Energy Advisory to bring that clarity to building owners — coordinating modeling, incentives, and compliance so every project decision supports both performance and financial return from day one.
What I’ve Seen After Hundreds of Buildings
Across projects, the same mistakes quietly drain profits — missed incentives, inflated designs, and wasted energy dollars. I help owners stop the financial leaks before they start, and repair the leaks that sneak onto utility bills
Too many handoffs, no clear point of contact
Energy work often spans multiple firms — engineers, modelers, and rebate specialists — with no one connecting the dots. I provide a single point of clarity so technical work stays aligned with owner goals.
Reports written for engineers, not decision-makers
The data is there but buried in jargon. I translate technical findings into clear business insights that leadership teams can act on.
Systems designed “too safe” that become too costly
Conservative design margins snowball into larger equipment, pumps, and controls — locking in higher costs that never go away.
Efficiency measures that compete instead of complement
Multiple efficiency strategies can unintentionally overlap or cancel each other out. I help ensure they work together, not against each other.
One-size-fits-all energy packages
Prepackaged “green” solutions often ignore climate, tariffs, and operating patterns. Each building deserves a tailored, data-driven strategy.
High-return opportunities hidden in plain sight
I make the hidden opportunities visible — the simple fixes that pay off the most.
Overly complex systems that fail in practice
Some designs look efficient on paper but fall apart under real-world operation. I help simplify before complexity turns into cost and downtime.
Overlooked incentives, tariffs, and 179D
Many projects leave free money unclaimed. I integrate incentives, utility schedules, and 179D opportunities from the start to maximize returns.
